“This darling little girl appears as if she is a delicate china doll sitting on a shelf. Notice that she is not sitting as one normally would, but is turned to the side so that that a stand can be used to hold her in place. The stand is plainly visible underneath the chair. Also, notice that not only her hands, but her fingers are meticulously placed, as if the photographer had plenty of time to get them “just so” without worry that they would be moved. Her thin little arms have no muscle tone whatsoever and have been carefully placed into position. The bottom of her elegant dress has been placed into a strange position as it actually extends well beyond the seat of the chair, hiding whatever contraption is also helping to hold her in place. Her sad little face is listless, featuring a drooping mouth and swollen cheeks. This sweet little angel could have easily succumbed to mumps as this disease was a major killer during the Victorian era. The only thing out of place is just one precious little ringlet, as if someone had brushed against her accidentally. This child was dearly loved by her family for them to have gone to such great lengths to preserve her memory.”

The question is: can they make Buster Keaton laugh? Not if he is awake. Buster has never been known to laugh although he has made millions roar. Here are three of Buster Keaton’s scenario staff and his director Eddie Cline trying to “laugh” Keaton into a story.

Keaton once said, “I developed the ‘Stone Face’ thing quite naturally. Even as a small kid, I happened to be the type of comic that couldn’t laugh at his own material. I soon learned at an awful early age that when I laughed the audience didn’t. So, by the time I got into pictures, that was a natural way of working.”

Flying Rats!? No it’s a muff and scarf..duh!

A rare example made from the heads and feathers of gulls, this accessory set represents the passion for using bird feathers and bird parts to decorate hats and other high-style fashion accessories in the 19th century. The practice ended in the early 20th century as birds were becoming extinct in order to supply the fashion industry. Even among examples from the period, this set stands out for its unusual design. The nestling of the two heads on the muff enhances the overall sense of warmth provided by the object, while the neckpiece draws attention to the wearer’s own swan-like neck. A set like this would have been been worn by an elite member of society who could afford to be somewhat unconventional in her taste.
